- Chair Wofford called the meeting to order, a quorum was declared, and the media had been notified.Recorded
- Election of Board Officers. Ann Conder nominated the following slate of officers: Board Chair - Sally Wofford; Vice Chair - Mac McQuillin, and Secretary - Michael Ramsey. The Board unanimously approved the nominated officers.Recorded
- Laura Garner, District ELA Coordinator, announced Brent Ebarle was the winner of the 2017 SpellBound Regional Competition Winner. Brent was unable to attend the Board meeting.Recorded
- Gene Sides, Interim Director of Facilities, introduced several contractors associated with the Foxbank Elementary School Project: Paulette Myers and Laura Slagel with McMillan Pazdan Smith; Greg Hughes and Kyle Farley with Contract Construction. The group shared a joint presentation via Powerpoint on the construction project. Ms. Myers presented a project overview, a floor plan of the new school, design information, and a virtual tour of the school. Greg Hughes spoke about the early site work on the land, project schedule, and bid process for contractors. He also talked about his company's partnership with the District to create the "Building Berkeley" program. CTE students from the District's high schools were hired to work on job sites of the District's renovation projects and new construction builds. Timberland High School building construction students will join the crews to erect the new Foxbank Elementary School.Recorded
- FY1718 General Fund Budget Workshop Update. Ms. Carlen shared a Powerpoint presentation with an update on the FY1718 general fund budget. She explained that the Board's decision to use 8% money to fund several of the budget line items frees up about $5.5 million. She provided a chart listing Board priorities for the upcoming school year. Discussion was held on the proposed budget.Recorded
- Fiscal Wellness Audit Update. Ricky Lopes from School Efficiency Consultants presented a report on the District's fiscal standing. He highlighted several areas of concern his team discovered during the audit. Discussion was held on the company's reported observations. Mr. Lopes recommended the District implement the following for cost savings: a detailed risk management practice for insurance process, procedures for hospitalization bills to be reconciled monthly, budgets for all funds instead of general funds only, and position control and allotment formulas for staffing.Recorded
