- Safety and Security Update. Tim Knight, Safety and Security Coordinator, presented a Powerpoint presentation on safety and security updates. He highlighted security initiatives that have been put in place including a District tech application/security icon to allow anonymous reporting, Clear Bag/No Bag safety procedures at athletic events, partnering with private k-12 schools and local colleges for safety plans, and improving physical security such as fencing, gates, and signage. The Safety Office has provided proactive training to include gunfire demonstrations by partnering with local law enforcement agencies, administrator self-defense and injury prevention training, Safeschools training on de-escalation and mandatory reporting, and mass casualty kit training for School Resource Officers. The Safety Office conducts at least 2 crisis simulations each year. An active shooter exercise was held at Cross Elementary School in November 2017 and intruder/abduction exercises will be held at Stratford High School and Berkeley High School in May.
