- Safety & Security Department Update. Mr. Deon Jackson and Mr. Tim Knight presented. Mr. Knight explained Berkeley County School District received four additional school resource officers due to a School Safety Grant through the SC Department of Education. The officers will be places at Devon Forest Elementary, Foxbank Elementary, Nexton Elementary and Whitesville Elementary. During the summer of 2019 there was a Multi-Jurisdictional Active Shooter Exercise at Stratford High and a Parent/Stident Reunification Exercise at Timberland High. The School District conducts at least two large crisis simulations each year. The first this year was an active shooter exercise in November at Foxbank Elementary. The next is scheduled for Spring 2020 at an elementary school for playground/physical security tests. These exercises are to ensure policy and procedures are effective in providing a safe environment for all students and staff. Also, during the summer of 2019 the annual SRO Summer Training Program took place at Cane Bay High. That training included de-escalation/mental health training, active shooter training, mass casualty/stop the bleed training and CPR/First Aid Certification. Security Initiatives - "Stop the Bleed" training for teachers, admin and school staff, bleeding control kits placed in every school, clear bag/no bag at all athletic events, security training for private K-12 schools and local colleges, and improve physical security - cameras, fencing, gates, signage, etc.Recorded
