- Chair Barrow called the meeting to order, declared a quorum was present, and the media had been notified.Recorded
- Superintendent Jackson recognized Chief Financial Officer, Ashley Smith. Ms. Smith started with a recap of the Education Funding Reform as a follow up from the March 22nd Board meeting stating the $4,000 increase to the state's minimum teacher salary scale does not include Berkeley County School District due to the District's teacher salary is already above the state minimum. Ms. Smith continued to show the impact of the new formula and the Districts shortfall. She presented the 2021-2022 approved budget in comparison to the new budget projections. Ms. Smith also shared that a team conducted of HR, Finance, Technology, Maintenance, Federal Programs, and Special Services met with principals to discuss staffing gaps, allocation formulas, travel, supplies, and athletic allocations. They received a lot of positive feedback from the principals. There was discussion about the hard to fill positions such as custodians and if there are benefits to out sourcing these jobs. Ms. Smith will also look at the projections for possible pay increases to make BCSD more competitive. Ms. Smith went on to share the 2022-2023 revenue projections and the estimated increases/decreases. Ms. Smith also talked about mandates, expected expenditures, and things to consider for 2022-2023 budget. Mr. Jackson asked his Cabinet to review their budgets and look at cutting back. Ms. Smith is looking at ways to offset the budget.Recorded
